In the spirit of Earth Day today, April 22, Starbucks has brewed up a special deal. If you bring in a reusable mug or tumbler, the retail chain will serve you a free brewed coffee or tea. You’ll get your choice of brew: hot or iced, since it’s spring, after all.
“We recognize the impact one can make through careful, conscious choices,” Starbucks says on its blog. “So we want to encourage and reward those of you who use tumblers or travel mugs in your daily routines. You’re helping to reduce our environmental impact!”
The offer is taking place at all participating Starbucks stores in the U.S. and Canada. And if you don’t happen to have a travel mug or tumbler, you can purchase one at Starbucks for 20 percent off today. Don’t have a reusable mug and don’t want to buy one? Just request your coffee or tea in a “for-here” cup, and it’ll be free.
Starbucks points out that guests get 10 cents off their drinks any day of the year when they bring in their own tumbler or travel mug.
The coffee chain says 1.2 million people participated in a similar promotion last year and it hopes more get involved this year. Also last year, its customers brought in their own tumblers more than 32 million times, Starbucks says, keeping nearly 1.5 million pounds of paper out of landfills.
