Researchers Find Way to ‘Connect’ Vehicles

According to, researchers at the Reposit (Relative
POSitioning for collision avoidance systems) project have found a way to
get vehicles to communicate with each other to avoid collisions.

Researchers developed a prototype system called Collision
Warning System (CWS), which employs global positioning technology to
track the vehicle’s position and speed. The CWS then uses an emerging
communication protocol called Vehicle2Vehicle (V2V). It collects
information and then calculates the position of other vehicles and
projects where they will be in the upcoming seconds. If the computer
predicts a collision conflict, it will warn the driver.

The biggest obstacle to the introduction of this system is that there are currently no standards for combining the functions.
