You needn’t be a beer or wine connoisseur to enjoy a visit to McMenamins Edgefield in
Troutdale (just outside of Portland), Oregon, though it boasts both a winery and a brewery.
This 38-acre slice of history, culture, cuisine and entertainment begs to be sampled if you
are anywhere in the vicinity of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
(there are other McMenamins in the state, thanks to the industrious brothers of the same
name) combines an outdoor experience featuring gardens and a golf course, with indoor
discovery including seven restaurants, pubs and small bars, a movie theater (with meals
available during the film), a hotel and spa, a gift shop and a museum-like building.
Originally established in 1911 as the Multnomah County Poor Farm, the marvelous site was
renovated by the brothers, saving much of the original design.
If you want a respite from
your RV, several guest packages are offered including a Fall Crush Package, which includes
lodging for two, a bottle of Edgefield wine served with a fruit and cheese tray, and
breakfast; price is $89 per couple Sunday through Thursday and $124 on weekends.
