2019 Dinghy Towing Guide Updates

2019 Toyota Yaris

Here are the most recent changes to MotorHome‘s 2019 Guide to Dinghy Towing.

Fiat 2019 500 with manual transmission may be flat towed at speeds up to 65 mph, for any distance, if the manual transmission is in neutral.

Ford 2019 Edge ST with 2.7-liter EcoBoost is flat-towable using the Manual Park Release procedure; do not exceed 65 mph.

Lincoln 2019 Nautilus with optional 2.7-liter engine is flat-towable using the Manual Park Release procedure; do not exceed 65 mph.

Ford 2019 Explorer with optional 2.3-liter EcoBoost is NOT flat towable.

Toyota 2019 Yaris is NOT flat towable.

We were using information provided in the Yaris owner’s manual; however, multiple versions of owner’s manuals and mid-year engineering changes do occur. This is why we always advise readers to check the owner’s manual that comes with the vehicle that they intend to purchase to confirm that that specific vehicle is approved for flat towing. We have updated our online 2019 Guide to Dinghy Towing, and MotorHome apologizes for any confusion.

  1. I bought a 2019 Chevy Equinox 2.0 2 wheel drive to tow behind my motorhome. I followed the owner’s manual, which included putting in a charge line. The first time I towed, we had to be jumped off because of a dead battery. The second time I towed, the battery was dead again, and I couldn’t even get it to shift gears. We had to have it towed. The dealership recharged the battery and reset some modules. They did not recommend towing it again. I took it to my home dealership for my 10,000 mile service and asked them to check it. I was told that they had several equinoxes in with the same problem, and there was nothing that could be done. The 2019 Chevy Equinox should be deleted from the dinghy tow guide. I now have a car that is one year old, cannot be towed, and is only worth half of what I paid for it as a trade!

    • I have an 18 Equinox. My battery does the same. When it is dead I carry a hand held charger. It takes less than 5 minutes to hook up and the vehicle starts right up.
