Q & A: Repairing a Graywater Tank

Tools

Q: We have a 1993 Newmar Kountry Star diesel-pusher motorhome. The graywater tank has a few very fine cracks on an inside corner. It’s almost impossible to weld without pulling the tank out of the motorhome. I have used automotive bumper glue, windshield glue and many other epoxy type glues brought to me by my buddies. Of all of these I have tried maybe 10 to 12 different types of epoxies, none of which, worked. You are my last hope. With all of the glues applied I could stick a screwdriver between the glue and the tank and peel it off easily.

A: Unfortunately these tanks are difficult to get anything to stick to, as you learned. VersaChem (formerly Syon) makes a kit for this type of repair. If you can’t find it at your local RV store, here’s a URL for a kit: www.pplmotorhomes.com/parts/caulks-sealants/holding-tank-repair-kit.htm, or call 800-755-4775.

  1. We just recently purchased a 2012 Honda CRV and installed a Blue Ox towing system. On our Saturn we had to pull a fuse in order to tow the car but the Honda manual does not say we should pull any fuse. We are unable to find out any further information. Should we pull the fuse or not?
    Thank you for any help.
