Winnebago Shows Most Overall Growth in 2012

Winnebago Industries Inc. has been recognized by Statistical Surveys Inc. as the top performing motorhome manufacturer with both the largest volume and the largest overall growth in motorhome retail registrations during 2012, the company announced in a press release.

In the U.S. motorhome retail registration report issued yesterday for December of 2012, Forest City, Iowa-based Winnebago was listed as the top selling manufacturer for Class A and Class C motorhomes in 2012, with market share of 20.6 percent compared to 19 percent for 2011. Winnebago’s volume growth was 16.1 percent above retail registrations during 2011 compared to industry growth of 7.3 percent.

In the U.S. Class A market segment, Winnebago is also the top-selling market leader with 22.2 percent for 2012. In addition, the company also led the U.S. Class A gas market segment with 24.2 percent market share, grew U.S. Class A diesel market share to 19.4 percent and U.S. Class C market share to 18.5 percent for 2012.

    Devil is in the details.

    I’ll speak to my own experience with a brand new 2013 View 24G. As it is in my driveway you’ll notice the E that should be on the end of the word profile missing from the hood/bonnet. Service rep pointed it out to me on my second return to the dealership before ever taking a trip. Rear, vertical LED brake light burnt out as in black and burnt inside, rear backup light full of water, (both replaced under warranty), LED light housing missing over dinette, table scratched through the formica (awaiting it’s replacement) hatch covers in bathroom/bedroom not nailed properly and fixed by me (sawdust, wires, wiretaps etc under hatches), door on front cabover section cut so crooked it really should have a new door, fabric doesn’t meet wood in cabover area, ….
    I think basically what I’m saying is that they may be producing more in volume but in my case the quality is severely lacking. It’s as if the passion to build and be the best is missing to me. It’s probably the dealer network and ability to obtain service that’s keeping them at the top. At least to me that was a major consideration as I’ll cross the country at least three times this year working as a motorsports photographer.
