RVs & Campers, 1900–2000: An Illustrated History

2165833_rvs_&_campers_1900_2000.jpgFor Americans in love with the great outdoors and exploring the U.S.’s vast wilderness by
automated means, RVs & Campers, 1900-2000: An Illustrated History by Donald F.
Wood takes you back to the earliest days of the motorhoming industry. Exploring an entire
century of auto camping history, and richly illustrating each decade with an abundance of
historical photos that are amazing in and of themselves, Wood takes the reader back through
the 20th century and the early days of the automobile.

The book takes you from the days of
one of the first “auto camping shows” (circa 1909); to a traveling chapel, circa World War
I, complete with stained glass windows, living quarters, confessional and a back “porch”
that opens out into an altar; on through auto camping during both world wars, including
such gems as a 1935 Chevy flatbed truck with a homemade wooden motorhome body. Modern RVs
are covered through 2000, but the real gem of this book is the historical footage from
early in the century. A must-have for history buffs and RV enthusiasts.
