Jayco Escapade 28G

In the Escapade family of Class C motorhomes, the 28G floorplan is one notch down from the largest – which could be considered an attribute because not everybody wants the largest, most expensive coach, and there may be more payload.

At 28 feet 7 inches, this model provides three potential sleeping areas and rides on a proven Ford chassis. Jayco’s Ben Johnson and Jason Bontrager see the main appeal of the Escapade as “all the amenities [which] you get for a great price.” These include high-end interiors, Westview maple cabinetry, thick padded carpeting, residential T-molded countertops and standard AC generator. “All these things are usually options,” Johnson said, “but we include them standard [for] a very affordable price.”

The very accommodating floorplan includes a full bedroom with a queen island bed, flanked by shirt closets and nightstands with drawers, with additional storage in overhead cabinets and below the bed. Up front, above the cab, is an overhead bunk that is suitable for children or the more adventurous that don’t mind the climb. In between, the convertible sofa and dinette face each other in the main lounging area. All of the overhead and kitchen cabinets are maple. Meal preparation may take a bit of juggling, due to the limited countertop space, but the galley commander can apply the use of sink covers and the dinette opposite to expand prep space. The kitchen is well-equipped with a three-burner range and conventional oven, an overhead microwave with carousel, a double sink and a refrigerator within easy reach across the aisle and adjacent to the entry door. Just aft of the kitchen area is the full-width bathroom that can be separated from the forward living space by a residential-style 6-panel passage door. The door can be used solely to isolate the small room that encloses the toilet and sink, leaving the shower and walkthrough to the rear bedroom accessible, or it can be latched across the aisle, giving privacy to the entire bathroom and bedroom area. For closing off the bedroom from the bath area, an accordion door is employed.

The kitchen and bath areas feature linoleum flooring for easy cleanup. For entertainment, the coach is equipped with two television shelves – one in a corner of the bedroom and another in a corner of the cab-over bunk to serve viewers in the living room. If shorepower hook-ups aren’t available, simply fire up the standard AC generator.

The exterior of the Escapade is smooth fiberglass, including the entrance and baggage doors, which hide 31 cubic feet of storage space. The entrance door features a dead-bolt for security and a patio light so you can see to get up and down the steps after dark. The optional Explorer Package includes, among other things, a patio awning. Jayco, (574) 825-5861, jayco.com
