Jayco Designer and Eagle

“UNIQUE STYLING ACCENTED BY AN ARRAY OF built-in extras” are the words Jayco uses to
describe its Designer and Eagle Class C motorhomes, and for 2001 the company continues in
this vein with a remake of these popular coaches. Pictured here is Jayco’s Designer 2830G
28-foot coach. Like the other four Designer and seven Eagle models, the kitchen has
received the most attention, with added storage space, a combination over-the-range
microwave oven/vent hood and a built-in coffeemaker. The Designer’s recessed sink features
a single-lever chrome faucet with an optional sprayer, and both the Designer and Eagle
models feature a three-burner stove with cover to create a flush countertop appearance. The
kitchen is housed in a large slideout room along with a sofa bed, and the dinette is
located curbside, midcoach. Diners and guests in the lounge area can be entertained by an
optional front entertainment system consisting of a 25-inch color television/VCR combo,
housed in a cabinet featuring solid-oak doors and drawers as well as a sliding tambour
door. An overhead TV cabinet is standard, as is a crank-up antenna with signal booster.
Other features include deep-pile carpeting, an optional satellite dish, an AM/FM stereo and
a roomy overhead storage area. Out back, there’s a queen-size bed with an innerspring
mattress, bed struts to access storage underneath, a recessed TV shelf (most models),
wardrobes with home-style handles and halogen reading lights, all standard. The bathroom
features a shower with a pleated shower door (standard on Designer), a linoleum floor, a
wood medicine cabinet with mirrors and a bath skylight (most models). Preparing potential
owners for summer heat or winter cold, the Designer is equipped with a 14-gallon
chassis-mount LP-gas tank; a six-gallon, gas/electric, auto-ignition water heater (with
water-heater winterization kit); heated holding tanks (full-basement models); and a
13,500-BTU roof air conditioner. Auxiliary generator prep is standard, as is a deluxe power
converter, while either a 4,000- or 5,500-watt AC generator is optional. Jayco offers a
Ford or Chevrolet chassis for the Eagle and Designer, and several models feature Hellwig
helper springs. Tuff-Shell vacuum-bonded lamination is used from the floor to the roof, and
exterior upgrades are highlighted by a new graphics package with optional skirt paint and
white remote mirrors. For those who enjoy the pleasures of cooking outdoors, Jayco also
offers an optional portable gas barbecue for alfresco grilling that hooks into the existing
gas line and comes with its own handy carrying case. Capacities for the Designer 2830G are
41 gallons of fresh water, 40 gallons of gray water and 37 gallons of black water. The
gross vehicle weight rating is 14,050 pounds. Retail base price is $60,750, while the
standard price, including popular options, is $65,844. Article by: Chris Hemer Jayco Inc.,
