Fleetwood Enterprises has added a diesel pusher, called the Expedition, to its motorized
product line, and it’s positioned between the Bounder and Discovery Class A coaches. It was introduced in February 2000 as a 2001 model. A company spokesperson states that this new model has four primary focus areas: driving performance, design and appearance, floorplan and freedom to choose options. The Expedition is aimed at providing a fully equipped motorhome at an affordable price and will serve to further narrow the price gap between high-end gas motorhomes and diesel pushers; suggested retail price of the Model 36T is $126,028.
The new model is available in 34- and 36- foot sizes, and both coaches have a sofa/dinette pairing in a forward slideout room and a wardrobe in an aft-end slideout. Fleetwood builds its new Expedition on the Freightliner XCS chassis, which features full air brakes, a 50-degree wheel cut, 22.5-inch tires and a Jacobs exhaust brake. Its standard engine is a Cummins ISB 5.9-liter turbocharged diesel rated at 260 hp @ 2,600 rpm, and 550 lb-ft of torque @ 1,900 rpm. It is coupled to an Allison T2000 five-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. The chassis gross vehicle weight rating (gvwr) is 23,000 pounds, and the unloaded vehicle weight of the 36-foot model is said to be 18,944 pounds. Its fluid capacities include 90 gallons of fuel, 100 gallons of fresh water and 50 gallons each of gray and black water.
This motorhome comes equipped with a wide array of standard features, including Corian countertops, dual-pane windows, four-point levelers, a 27-inch television up front plus a 20-inch set in the rear, a 1,000-watt inverter, black-tank flush, three interior decor options and adjustable headboards. Also standard are a rear-vision camera, fog lamps, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, a 6.5-kW LP-gas AC generator, electronic climate control and a porcelain toilet. Buyers may choose between two interior woods. Customers have several optional choices, including a 7.5-kW Onan Quiet Diesel AC generator and a 2,000-watt inverter. An optional driving package includes driver/co-pilot leather seats and dash fans. In addition, a buyer may add an entertainment package that includes a CD changer, a DVD player, home theater sound and a rear-bedroom stereo. The appliance package provides a washer/dryer (for the 36-foot model only), a 10-gallon water heater and a central vacuum. Article by: Len Souza
