The popularity of larger Class C’s built on medium-duty truck chassis
has been increasing significantly in recent years. They offer much of
the floor space and many of the amenities found in their Class A
counterparts. Likewise, medium-duty C’s are considered quite
user-friendly in the sense that they are generally a bit more
campground-accessible than larger rigs, and provide drivers an optimum
sense of control and confidence, even under the most adverse of driving
We recently were able to road-test a 32-foot model (40MH32 ST)
medium-duty Class C, built by a recognized builder of quality coaches:
Bigfoot RV of Armstrong, British Columbia, Canada. The C model we tested
included a forward-slideout living-room galley arrangement, a midcoach
split bathroom and a rear-slideout bedroom. Two floorplan offerings (32
and 35 feet) are built on Chevrolet Kodiak 5500 Series truck chassis.
Considering the Bigfoot’s total wet weight of 18,620 pounds, we
were pleased that the Duramax diesel chassis provided smooth,
reassuring power. As a highway cruiser, the Bigfoot is a pure pleasure
to drive, and fuel mileage was better than we expected. Even with
mountain driving, long hauls up several demanding grades and bucking
severe crosswinds, it still averaged 9.8 mpg.
Bigfoot provides a plush interior, replete with a contemporary
“Landscape” decor package. Cabinetry and wood accents are crafted of
reddish-hued oak that imparts a warm, homey ambiance to the interior.
Besides convenient bedroom storage spaces, the coach is
outfitted with overhead cabinets in the living room and above the
dinette. There are adequate galley cupboards and drawers, plus a handy
slideout pantry for storing a good amount of canned goods and boxed

If you’ve hankered for the power, economy and reliability of a
diesel rig, but haven’t been able to come to terms with the prices of
Class A coaches, you may want to take a hard look at Bigfoot’s
medium-duty layout. Whether your interests lie in full-timing,
spot-camping or long-distance cruising, this all-weather Class C is sure
to please even the most discerning RVers.
