Once Upon a Time in Storybook Land

Once Upon a Time in Storybook LandAn “egg-centric” Humpty Dumpty sits on a tall brick wall. A dashing
prince scales Rapunzel’s golden-hair ladder at a medieval castle with
moat. Who can’t tell a lie? Pinocchio, that’s who — his lips are sealed
in fiberglass.

That’s just the beginning of the “Grimm” tale at Storybook Land in
Aberdeen, South Dakota. Largely volunteer built, the award-winning
magical theme park boasts more than 60 fiberglass fairy tale and nursery
rhyme sets. But the animals at Old MacDonald’s Farm aren’t
make-believe.

Click your heels three times and you’ll land in another magical
setting: The Land of Oz, a 10-acre 1014463_once_upon_a_time_1.jpgadventure down the yellow brick
road. Beware the simulated tornado at Dorothy’s house and flying witches
in the Haunted Forest. It’s up, up and away for the wizard in his green
fiberglass balloon.

Storybook Land and Land of Oz are part of Wylie Park, a
210-acre family recreational area located one mile north of Aberdeen on
U.S. Highway 281. Admission is free and RV camping is available.
