Crossroads: Cachuma Lake Recreation Area

At Cachuma Lake Recreation Area, 20 miles north of Santa Barbara, California, park
naturalists offer two-hour wildlife viewing cruises, and from November through February,
migrating bald eagles are the prime sights. Scheduled Wednesday through Sunday, cruises are
on the Osprey pontoon boat; the boat is wheelchair-accessible. For reservations, call (805)
686-5050. The county recreation area offers a lot more than lovely Cachuma Lake. Campsites
include 90 with full hookups that can accommodate any size rig. A general store, a gas
station, a coin-operated laundry, showers and a dump station are available. The Nature
Center features Native American artifacts and wildlife displays, plus a gift shop.

Cachuma
is considered one of Southern California’s finest fishing lakes for bass, catfish,
bluegill, perch and rainbow trout. The marina is open year-round, with bait and tackle,
fuel and fishing licenses. Boat rentals area available. However, canoes, kayaks and rafts
are not allowed on the lake because it is a source of drinking water. For fishing
conditions, call (805) 686-5054. Campsites are on a first-come, first-served basis except
for groups. For information, call (805) 686-5054
