Tandem Tow Dollies

Owning a motorhome is a study in the art of compromise. Enthusiasts are
continually reminded of the difference between taking what you want —
and packing only what you need. That same mental tug-of-war happens when
deciding which big toys to bring along. Your coach is only capable of
towing a single addition — leaving you to pick between boat trailer,
dinghy, motorcycle dolly or ATV trailer.

Of course, if you’d rather not have to choose, Race City RV
Products produces Tandem Tow Dollies that allow you to take your dinghy,
and your choice of golf cart, ATV and a motorcycle — or two. The
dollies are available with 3,500- and 5,000-pound gross axle weight
ratings, and either 5,000- or 8,000-pound gross vehicle weight ratings.
They all incorporate a unique adjustable Car Swivel Plate, which allows
adjustment of the tongue-weight distribution to “fine tune” the load.
Loading ramps and dinghy wheel straps are standard; options include a
motorcycle track, spare tire, cargo box, brakes (hydraulic surge or
electric) and powder-coated colors to match most RVs.

  2. Hello, looking to purchase tandem tow trailer to pull behind my gas RV. 5000lb hitch. Would like to haul my Harley Ultra Classic with my toad 2017 Chevy spark. Do you have any information or trailers that can help me do this. Thank you.

    • Jerry,
We passed along your question to Technical Editor Chris Dougherty, and here is his response:

      Jerry,
We need to approach this differently. Just because the motorhome has a 5,000-pound hitch doesn’t mean that the coach can tow 5,000 pounds. Then you have a Chevy Spark, which may not be able to tow anything. Towing is a combination of powertrain and structure. So, between dinghy tow bar restrictions, Spark structure restrictions and the motorhome’s restrictions, this is a steep hill to climb.
The best way to accomplish this would be to purchase an enclosed or flatbed trailer that can hold both. But, will the combination of the trailer, car and motorcycle exceed 5,000 pounds? Possibly. So, to see what the motorhome can really tow, weigh your coach ready for travel to make sure you don’t exceed the GVWR. Then, find the GCWR rating of the motorhome and subtract the GVWR from the GCWR.
GCWR-GVWR = maximum towing capacity, unless reduced by the motorhome builder. If the tow rating is more than 5,000 pounds, you might be able to replace the hitch with a higher rated hitch, but you should verify that with the motorhome manufacturer. When chassis are lengthened to build a motorhome on them, it can change what the coach can tow. If there’s no information in your owner’s packet, contact the manufacturer.
